Laurie Beth McPike

Laurie Beth McPike has over 40 years of healthcare leadership experience. Her chosen career path as a Physical Therapist created a passion for patient advocacy. Recently, she has owned and operated a company with 4 skilled nursing facilities, leading them successfully through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

She previously served as the President of the Texas region for HealthSouth Corporation from 2004 to August 2009. As an officer of the company, she assumed operational responsibility and accountability for a $280+ million business unit employing 3100+ employees. She oversaw patient outcomes, strategic planning, fiscal management, operational oversight, new hospital and product line development and joint venture relationships for 13 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, 1 long-term acute care hospital, 10 outpatient centers, 1 hyperbaric wound center, 4 pain centers, 2 SNFs and 10 home health agencies. In her last two years in this position, she sourced and executed on three new hospital acquisition deals, successfully acquiring, and consolidating operations of three competing hospitals in three key markets. During these transitions, Laurie Beth focused on and prioritized direct patient care and patient satisfaction to successfully manage through the acquisition process.

She started her career practicing as a licensed Physical Therapist. This clinical background gives her a distinct advantage over most healthcare executives who may lack awareness of patients’ needs, as the number one priority. She landed her first management position two years after graduating from college when asked to step into the Director of Physical Therapy Services of a small rehabilitation hospital company.

She was recruited to Texas in 1992 to become the Program Director for the Brain Injury and Stroke programs of a new start up rehabilitation hospital in Austin. She successfully launched both programs from the ground up, achieving full census capacity of both programs in the first nine months of operation. This position led to her first corporate position as a Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist and Regional Administrator for a south Texas-based rehabilitation company.

She was nominated to serve as the Chairperson of the Rehabilitation Committee and Committee Member on the Council for Policy Development for the Texas Hospital Association. She was a recipient of the President’s Award, as well as several performance awards for outstanding patient satisfaction, volume growth, marketing strategy execution, new product development, and overall operational excellence. She attributes these accomplishments directly to ensuring superior patient care, above all else.
